How You Can Help

At this time, the drive to collect crutches and canes for Haiti has officially ended. The outpouring of support from our region has been overwhelming and more than 4,000 sets of crutches, canes and walkers were collected.

As previously stated, the first shipment of crutches arrived in the Dominican Republic on Friday and immediately made their way into Haiti. We are finalizing the logistics to have the rest of the supplies transported to Haiti this week. We are grateful for the care and compassion shown by the many people from all over the Delaware Valley who participated in this drive and made it so successful.

The Cooper medical team has told us that 80% of the patients they are treating have severe lower extremity crush injuries and amputations therefore these crutches and canes are very much in need.

If you missed the reports, here’s video from Fox 29 and 6ABC showing the truckloads of crutches being loaded for their 1,500 mile trip to Haiti:

A few days ago, I forwarded the info about Cooper helping in Haiti to some friends and family asking for prayer for our the team. My brother and his company, Tom Carpenter
Director of Corporate Compliance, RPM Performance Coatings, Inc., 856-779-7500, have collected 16 pair of crutches and 3 canes for the cause. My husband Werner is picking them up today and bringing them to the CBO where I work. I just want to let you know that help is coming from all sources. Thank God.

I just heard about your crutch collection on the news last night. I am afraid I missed the deadline. I would like to coordinate a collection from our soccer association. Will you be accepting them another time or do you know of another group who is also collecting them? Thank you.

If you are continuing the collection of crutches and canes, we will organize a drive in our local schools. Can you advise us if you will be taking this equipment for another week? We could have the things to one of your collection points by January 29. THANK YOU!

I am a public librarian in Philadelphia. If the Free Library of Philadelphia and Weaver’s Way Food Coop collect crutches, canes, wheelchairs and walkers do you know of a way to get them to Haiti and are more still needed?

Many thanks for all your great work, Best, Marsha Stender

We also have crutches to send. Can you please tell me if there will be another collection or of another place that we can donate them too? Thank you.
